Women Building Community
Habitat for Humanity Capital Region's annual Women Build took place from May 12 to May 16. The event brought together a team of corporate volunteers, nonprofit partners, and skilled builders to work on a duplex in Lansing’s Eastfield neighborhood, a site of ongoing revitalization efforts by Habitat Capital Region.
During Women Build, volunteers take action to empower other women, and create homeownership opportunities in their community.
A Unique Collaboration
Throughout the week, Women Build highlighted the generosity and spirit of local corporate partners, including WLNS TV 6, LAFCU, Jackson, Delta Dental, and a team of Capital Region nonprofit leaders. These teams joined Habitat’s experienced construction crew, contributing to a meaningful project that ensured neighbors could live safely and independently, regardless of income or ability.
Once completed, the home will offer supported independent living for two individuals served by Lansing Intentional Communities (LINCS), an organization dedicated to empowering adults with developmental disabilities through community-integrated housing. This project is possible through contributions from The Peoples Church and the donation of the property by the University of Michigan Health - Sparrow.
Driven By Generosity
Mary Douglass, treasurer for LINCS and parent of a LINCS participant, expressed her gratitude:
“The generosity, vision, and commitment of The Peoples Church and Habitat for Humanity to this project expand and strengthen our current community. This collaboration is an enviable model of bringing together families, nonprofits, and the faith community to solve real-world struggles faced by members of our community.”
Habitat Capital Region's services are achieved thanks to overwhelming community support in the form of financial contributions and volunteer labor. Thank you to this year’s Women Build partners and participants: WLNS TV 6, Jackson, LAFCU, Delta Dental, and our Capital Region nonprofit leaders.

Get Involved!
You can get hands on with the project by volunteering with us! Lots of volunteer help is needed. Most construction volunteer opportunities take place during the day, Tuesday-Friday. If that is something you are able to help with, consider applying to volunteer to get started!
