FAQs
Q: What is Habitat for Humanity Capital Region, and what do you do?
A: Habitat Capital Region is a local, independently funded affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We build and sell decent, affordable homes to local low- and moderate-income homebuyers in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties. We also have Critical Home Repair and Ramp Programs to help ensure safe and accessible homes throughout our communities.
Q: Are Habitat for Humanity houses free?
A: Habitat Capital Region does not give away free homes. We build (or rehabilitate) and sell homes to low- to moderate- homebuyer partners who make affordable monthly mortgage payments on their new homes. Our homebuyers invest 150-250 hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others, and attending a series of Home Buyer Education classes.
Q: What kind of homes does Habitat build?
A: Because creating homeownership opportunities is our focus, Habitat Capital Region currently builds and rehabilitates only single-family homes.
Q: Where does Habitat Capital Region build homes?
A: Habitat Capital Region serves all of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties and primarily builds new homes in the City of Lansing. If you are interested in getting involved with Habitat outside of the Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham County area, visit Habitat for Humanity Michigan for information about other Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout the state of Michigan.
