Jill's Energy Efficient Home Repairs: Habitat Repair Partner, Jill, stands in front of her recently repaired home.

Jill’s Energy Efficient Home Repairs

Jill has called her century-old house home for the last 30 years. But over the years, maintaining her house has become increasingly difficult.

Jill lives with multiple sclerosis, a condition that makes it hard to keep up with home repairs. Additionally, the drafty windows, creaky doors, and rising heating bills each winter added to her stress.

Jill's Home Repairs

After several years, she applied to the Habitat for Humanity Capital Region Critical Home Repair Program for some relief. With funding from MSHDA MI-HOPE, a grant program aimed at improving energy efficiency in homes, Habitat replaced all of Jill’s windows and doors.

“I will save lots of money on my heating costs and feel warm this winter,” Jill said with a smile. “I can’t wait to see the difference.”

Above all, the repairs did more than fix her house; they renewed Jill’s sense of stability and comfort. Now, with a warm home and reduced heating bills, she can focus on what matters most—caring for her family and managing her health.

MSHDA's Support

This success story would not be complete without mentioning the support of Habitat Capital Region by the MSHDA MI-HOPE Grant. As a result, Habitat Capital Region is repairing several homes that are in need of energy efficient upgrades, like Jill's. Thanks to this grant, single-family homes in the Capital Region will be preserved for affordable homeownership.

Now, Habitat Capital Region can more quickly serve people in need of a decent place to live. Jill's house is the second home being repaired through this partnership.
