Habitat for Humanity Capital Region, Habitat for Humanity Michigan, MSHDA Partner to Help Homeowners
Habitat for Humanity Capital Region is utilizing grant funds awarded to Habitat for Humanity of Michigan by MSHDA to pinpoint homeowners in need and complete priority home repairs.

LANSING, MICH. – Habitat for Humanity Capital Region is helping current homeowners keep their homes from disrepair and make home ownership more affordable for Ingham and Eaton County residents through two programs – Priority Home Repair and Down Payment Assistance – organized by Habitat for Humanity Michigan and made possible by a $1 million grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
The Priority Home Repair program helps low-income families by funding critical repairs to their homes. Without these repairs, the houses could affect the safety of the families living inside. To qualify for the Priority Home Repair program, homeowners must own the home or property, be up-to-date on their mortgage and taxes, have an income at or below 60 percent of the Area Median Income, be willing to partner with Habitat Capital Region on critical repairs, and allow someone to assess the health and safety needs of the home.
Funding for the Priority Home Repair program will be available on December 1, 2019, and Habitat Capital Region will be accepting applications from community homeowners who need urgent repairs to their home.
“MSHDA Priority Home Repair grant funds allow Habitat for Humanity Capital Region to serve more homeowners throughout Ingham and Eaton counties with affordable critical home repairs,” said Talonda Moss-Mulgrew, Homeowner Services Director. “It can be the difference between living with buckets to collect water leaking into your kitchen when it rains and a new roof to live under without the stress and worry of the next storm”.
Down Payment Assistance is available for local families applying to own a Habitat Capital Region-built home. Families interested in owning a home built by Habitat Capital Region may apply at the website.

As a long-term Habitat for Humanity of Michigan partner, MSHDA continues to support Habitat of Michigan’s programs that help local homeowners. Habitat Capital Region will receive a reimbursement of funds as part of a larger $1 million award for programs which impact communities across the state.
