A Year of Partnership and Purpose | The Peoples Church & LINCS

What began as a simple act of generosity – five donated properties from the University of Michigan Health–Sparrow – has transformed into a remarkable year-long collaboration rooted in service, compassion, and community. The rehabilitation of the Ferguson Street duplex marks the culmination of a partnership between The Peoples Church (TPC) of East Lansing, Lansing Intentional Communities (LINCS), and Habitat for Humanity Capital Region.

Announced in November 2024 as part of The Peoples Church’s Capital Campaign, the project represents faith in action. With generous financial and volunteer support from the church, Habitat Capital Region led extensive renovation efforts to convert the structure into housing for young adults with various developmental challenges, in alignment with LINCS’ mission. The build site became a hub for volunteer engagement, serving as the location for Women Build, LEO 9/11 Days of Service, and multiple days of volunteerism throughout the year.

“The project to rehabilitate the duplex at 116 Ferguson is a wonderful expression of The Peoples Church’s long history of service in our local community,” said Jon Lundy, co-chair of the church committee that pursued this unique community outreach project. Church members have given their energy, time, and money to expand the vibrant community of Lansing Intentional Communities. This project has been a beneficial partnership between Habitat Capital Region, Lansing Intentional Communities, and The Peoples Church.”

From start to finish, the project reflects what can be achieved when organizations unite around a shared vision. Volunteers, donors, and staff from all three partners worked diligently to ensure the duplex would provide dignity, independence, and belonging to its future residents. The home reflects LINCS’s mission: to integrate young adults with developmental challenges into their communities while maximizing their independence.

As LINCS prepares to move into the duplex, the completion of this home stands as a testament to collaboration at its best. It is a reminder that when compassion meets commitment, lasting change takes root in the Capital Region.
