After 14 years in a cramped rental home with flooding and health concerns, Rebellia and her four kids are eager to be on the path to homeownership. They are matched to the first of four houses donated by University of Michigan Health - Sparrow. Soon, they will be the first homeowner in the Eastfield neighborhood project. Rebellia is deeply involved in the renovation efforts and met her sweat equity requirements early on.

Rebellia earns sweat equity by volunteering at fellow Habitat homeowner Brittni's house.
But Rebellia’s commitment doesn’t stop there. She is paying it forward, helping others meet their sweat equity goals. Rebellia is donating her excess volunteer hours because “If I can do it, you can do it,” she says. Ultimately, she hopes to share her story and help people in situations similar to hers become homeowners too.
As she looks to the future, Rebellia says, “My Habitat home will bring my family closer and give us balance to really start living. We won’t have to worry about what next month’s rent is going to be, or how much food we have to sacrifice.”

Soon, Rebellia will be the first person in her family to own a home. Also, she will be the first homeowner in the Eastfield Neighborhood project! She is most excited to have a spacious kitchen where she and her kids can all fit and continue their favorite tradition – cooking together as a family.
Rebellia will purchase her Habitat home with and affordable mortgage in the spring.
