From September 21-26, we hosted 175 volunteers, painted 4 houses, made repairs to several porches, did lawn work, and mowed 60+ lawns on the street surrounding our new house at 2118 Forest Avenue in Lansing. More than 12 organizations participated in this neighborhood revitalization event!
To date, the BWL has conducted 10 Hometown Help energy visits for Rock the Block! Each participating household received one-on-one behavioral education on how to save electricity through “no-cost” and “low-cost” actions they can do themselves. In addition to this useful advice, the following items were installed at no cost to the residents: 272 LED bulbs, 20 LED nightlights, 4 electric water heating saving items (pipe wrap, faucet aerators and showerhead), 4 ENERGY STAR refrigerators, and 2 ENERGY STAR dehumidifiers. The old fridges and dehumidifiers were recycled in an environmentally-friendly manner.
