Habitat for Humanity Capital Region (Habitat Capital Region) is a local and independently operated affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, located in Lansing, Michigan.
Habitat Capital Region is a dynamic, progressive nonprofit organization that works to provide affordable homeownership opportunities, home repairs, and accessibility ramps to low- to moderate-income individuals and families in Ingham and Eaton County.
Primary Objective
The Development & Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical leadership role in advancing Habitat for Humanity Capital Region’s mission by strengthening volunteer engagement while supporting integrated fundraising and community partnership efforts. This position is primarily responsible for developing, managing, and growing a high-quality volunteer program that supports Construction, ReStore, and administrative operations.
In close collaboration with the Director of Development & Community Partnerships, this role also supports donor cultivation and solicitation efforts, as well as special events, sponsorship fulfillment, and peer-to-peer and small-group fundraising initiatives. The position serves as a bridge between volunteerism and philanthropy, ensuring that volunteer engagement, events, and fundraising activities are aligned and mutually reinforcing.
Primary Responsibilities
Duties include volunteer recruitment, coordination, and stewardship; faith community relations; and the planning and implementation of volunteer events such as Women Build, Rock the Block, and Heart of Habitat. Additional responsibilities include outreach and administrative activities such as database (Salesforce) management and attendance at community outreach events.
Volunteer Program Leadership and Stewardship

Strategically manage HFHCR’s volunteer program as a core organizational asset

Oversee volunteer recruitment, intake, screening, and registration processes

Schedule and deploy volunteers in coordination with Construction, ReStore, and Administrative teams

Recruit, train, supervise, and support Core Crew leaders and site hosts

Build volunteer leadership capacity, succession planning, and retention strategies

Manage subsidiary volunteer programs and community chapters

Implement volunteer surveys, feedback systems, and performance metrics

Serve as a liaison to corporate, civic, and community volunteer partners

Ensure consistent, safe, and enjoyable mission-centered volunteer experiences
Faith Relations and Community Partnerships

Assist with outreach and engagement of faith communities throughout the Capital Region

Support and staff the Faith Relations Committee

Assist in preparing and distributing faith-based outreach and engagement communications and materials

Maintain accurate lists of local faith community contacts and records of partners, liaisons, and project participation
Event Management and Engagement

Collaborate cross-departmentally to plan and execute volunteer-driven and fundraising events, including affinity builds such as Women Build, Pride Build, Veterans Build, and Heart of Habitat, as well as smaller community events

Maintain a comprehensive master volunteer and event calendar and planning timeline

Coordinate volunteer recruitment, registration, and scheduling for events

Assist in developing and monitoring event budgets and expenses

Support logistics, partner coordination, and on-site event management

Work closely with marketing and outreach staff on event promotion and communications
Fundraising and Donor Support

Support lower-dollar fundraising campaigns, appeals, and peer-to-peer initiatives

Assist with corporate sponsorship fulfillment and recognition activities

Assist in preparing and coordinating donor acknowledgements and stewardship communications

Support donor cultivation and engagement activities in partnership with the Development team

Maintain accurate donor and volunteer records in Salesforce and related systems

Assist with prospect tracking and reporting as assigned

Assist with deposit reports and donation reporting for the Accounting Department
Administration, Reporting, and Collaboration

Maintain accurate and current volunteer and donor databases
-
Prepare regular reports on volunteer engagement, event participation, and fundraising support activities

Participate in internal committees and cross-functional workgroups
-
Represent HFHCR at community, networking, and outreach events

Support interdepartmental planning and communication

Attend professional development and training opportunities as approved

Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational priorities
