Position: Construction Site Supervisor

Reports to: Construction Director

Hours: Full-time, exempt

Salary: $50,000-$57,000

Position Description

The Construction Site Supervisor’s primary objective is to lead on-site construction activities, direct the work of skilled and unskilled volunteers, and schedule and oversee the work of paid subcontractors. The Site Supervisor is responsible for opening and closing the jobsite each day, ensuring the site is prepared and accessible for inspectors and subcontractors, and maintaining a safe work environment during business hours while securing the site after hours.

Additionally, the Construction Site Supervisor ensures that all work on assigned projects is completed in accordance with approved plans, applicable building codes, and sound construction practices.

Primary Responsibilities

Teaching construction tasks to unskilled volunteers and overseeing the quality of their work are core day-to-day functions of this position. The Construction Site Supervisor teaches and leads by example, safely operates common construction tools and equipment, and serves as a positive representative of Habitat Capital Region. This position requires maintaining a professional and enthusiastic presence on the jobsite.

When volunteers are not scheduled, the Construction Site Supervisor continues working on-site with staff to ensure homes are completed through the final punch list. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the quality of subcontracted work in the field, verifying that delivered materials match ordered quantities, and collaborating with the Construction Director to meet project deadlines.

Job Duties

In a typical day, you might:

  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of Habitat Capital Region’s on-site construction operations in an efficient and safe manner, maintaining quality standards and ensuring homes are completed on schedule

  • Plan and oversee daily construction activities, including site preparation, work assignments, construction tasks, and site cleanup

  • Complete construction tasks with high-quality workmanship

  • Provide daily safety briefings and task instruction for volunteers, ensuring full understanding of appropriate techniques and safety protocols before volunteers work independently

  • Maintain active supervision of volunteers throughout the day and provide assistance as needed

  • When Core Crew volunteer leaders are present, provide clear instructions and ensure they have the tools and resources needed to lead volunteers effectively

  • Ensure the proper quantity and types of tools are available for volunteers each day

  • Contribute to construction design, planning, budgeting, permitting, scheduling, and site safety in coordination with the Construction Director and team

  • Manage materials on-site, inspect deliveries, and communicate site needs for materials, equipment, volunteer crews, and subcontractors with the Construction management team

  • Track construction schedules to ensure timely completion and keep the Construction Director informed of project and budget updates

  • Oversee and monitor subcontractor performance, inspections, and utility installation

  • Maintain accurate records of site activities, personnel, and expenses as required

  • Ensure all construction activities comply with applicable laws and regulations, organizational policies, and Habitat for Humanity International requirements

  • Maintain strict adherence to OSHA-compliant safety standards on all Habitat Capital Region construction sites and activities

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of three years of carpentry experience, with the ability to complete quality home repair and construction tasks from foundation through final finishes

  • Experience supervising residential construction sites required

  • General Contractor’s license preferred

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to perform basic computer and mobile tasks using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Photos)

  • Excellent communication skills; detail-oriented and personable

  • Significant experience in residential construction, project scheduling, and budgeting

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to teach volunteers and work collaboratively as part of a team

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment

  • Commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission and values

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required

  • Availability for occasional Saturday work

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods, often on rough or uneven terrain

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds

  • Ability to work on ladders and at heights of up to two stories

  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions; sites may be unheated in winter and not air-conditioned in summer

  • Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination
