Since 2013, Amazon has contributed 0.5% of every purchase made by participating customers to the charity of their choosing – including Habitat Capital Region! The AmazonSmile program has donated over $400 million to U.S. charities. Above all, it makes it easy for customers to support their favorite charity – even small ones that would otherwise not benefit from such a large corporation.
We feel lucky that our supporters use AmazonSmile to support our mission and the missions of other local nonprofits. Because of you, Habitat Capital Region reliably receives hundreds of dollars of support from AmazonSmile each year.
“After almost a decade, the program has not grown to create the impact that we had originally hoped,” said Amazon.
Because the program grew to support nearly 1 million charitable organizations, its ability to make significant contributions to each registered organization was not possible. However, many small and local nonprofits did have significant support from the program. The discontinuance of AmazonSmile will cause many local charities to lose an important revenue stream that they may have grown to depend on over the last decade.
We’re very disappointed that Amazon decided to end this program that allowed individuals to support the local organizations of their choice.
BUT - and it's a big but - you can still support Habitat Capital Region when you shop.
