Position: Volunteer Program Coordinator

Reports to: President & CEO

Hours: Full-time, exempt

Salary: $20-$22/hour, based on experience

As our Volunteer Program Coordinator, you will coordinate a volunteer program that supports the operational success of the organization.

Habitat for Humanity Capital Region (Habitat Capital Region) is a local and independently operated affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, located in Lansing, Michigan.

Habitat Capital Region is a dynamic, progressive nonprofit organization that works to provide affordable homeownership opportunities, home repairs, and accessibility ramps to low- to moderate-income individuals and families in Ingham and Eaton County.

Primary Objective

Volunteerism is a critical resource for the success of the organization. The primary objective of this position is to coordinate and grow a robust volunteer program that supports operational success through increased volunteer capacity, engagement, and satisfaction, as well as community outreach activities designed to meet volunteerism goals. This position requires the ability to create positive volunteer experiences while supporting the operational needs of each department.

Primary Responsibilities

Duties include volunteer recruitment, coordination, and stewardship; faith community relations; and the planning and implementation of volunteer events such as Women Build, Rock the Block, and Heart of Habitat. Additional responsibilities include outreach and administrative activities such as database (Salesforce) management and attendance at community outreach events.

Volunteer Coordination and Stewardship

  • Strategically manage HFHCR’s volunteer program as a critical operational asset

  • Oversee the volunteer intake process for individuals and groups, ensuring all registration requirements are completed prior to participation

  • Schedule volunteers in collaboration with Construction, ReStore, and administrative teams to maximize operational value and volunteer satisfaction

  • Implement volunteer surveys and track participation metrics

  • Serve as a liaison to community organizations volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Capital Region

  • Increase the capacity, succession, and leadership potential of Core Crew volunteers

  • Recruit, train, and schedule site hosts and Core Crew leaders

  • Manage subsidiary programs, including the MSU chapter and potential future chapters

Faith Relations and Stewardship

  • Build long-lasting relationships with churches and faith-based institutions

  • Represent Habitat for Humanity Capital Region at churches and special events

  • Prepare and distribute communications to churches and faith-based partners

  • Serve as staff liaison to the Faith Relations Committee

  • Maintain or assist in maintaining an accurate and current database of volunteers, donors, church liaisons, and project partnerships

Event Management

  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to support all facets of volunteer event planning and implementation, including registration, social media, marketing, communications, and logistics

  • Develop and maintain a master event grid outlining timelines and tasks across the full event cycle

  • Develop and maintain event budgets and monitor expenses to meet targets

  • Work with partners, staff, and board members to plan and implement volunteer events effectively

Administration

  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date volunteer database in Salesforce or other volunteer management software

  • Assist in the creation of digital and print marketing materials, newsletters, and community outreach materials

  • Identify and attend community outreach events to promote volunteer opportunities

  • Support donor stewardship efforts in partnership with the Philanthropy team as requested
